Sugar Cookie Truffles
If you are looking for a dessert that feels festive without turning on the oven, these Sugar Cookie Truffles are a must try. They are a no bake treat built on Golden Oreos, cream cheese, a white chocolate coating, and a generous shower of sprinkles.
The flavor lands somewhere between sugar cookie dough and a creamy truffle, which is exactly why the tray empties so quickly at a 4th of July cookout.
The batch is small enough to feel manageable on a weeknight and generous enough to share at a party.
I like to keep a batch chilling in the refrigerator before a party, because they travel well and look far more impressive than the effort they require. Serve them next to Patriotic Cheesecake Bites, a slice of Firecracker Cake, or a plate of M&M Brownies, and you have a celebration spread that guests photograph before they eat.

SUGAR COOKIE TRUFFLES
These truffles taste like sugar cookie dough, and then the sweet melted white chocolate coating takes them somewhere even better. The base is Golden Oreos with their frosting included, which gives the filling a consistency close to a classic creamy truffle once it is blended with cream cheese. Every bite is soft in the middle with a thin, snappy shell.
The first time I made these, I set the tray on the counter for a birthday party and watched three people ask for the recipe before the cake was even cut. That is the kind of dessert this is: simple on paper, quietly impressive on the table.
What I appreciate most is that the truffle base needs no baking and no fussy dough. The food processor does the heavy lifting, the freezer does the waiting, and you are left with a dessert that looks handmade in the best way.

The recipe fits almost any occasion. A holiday cookie tray, a summer BBQ, a birthday party, or a rainy afternoon when you want something sweet without heating up the kitchen. Change the sprinkle colors and the same truffle suits whatever you are celebrating.
If you enjoy this style of cookie flavor, you may also like my other sugar cookie recipes: Sugar Cookie Bars, Soft Sugar Cookies, Cut Out Sugar Cookies, Crumbl Sugar Cookies, and Giant Sugar Cookies. They all lean on that familiar vanilla and butter flavor that makes these truffles so easy to love.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
There is a lot to like here, and most of it comes down to how little work the recipe asks of you.
- Six simple ingredients. Nothing fancy, nothing hard to find at a regular grocery store.
- No bake. The oven stays off, which matters on a hot summer day.
- Freezer friendly. You can stash them for later and pull them out when company arrives.
- Easy to make ahead. Prepare them a day in advance and keep them refrigerated until serving.
- Portable. Store them in an airtight container, or cover a platter with plastic wrap and carry it out the door.
- Endlessly customizable. Change the sprinkle colors, change the candy coating color, or leave the sprinkles off completely.
They are perfect for 4th of July parties, summer BBQs, birthdays, and holiday cookie trays, and they hold up well on a dessert table where people graze all afternoon. I have brought them to potlucks, school bake sales, and a baby shower, and they never come home.

Because there is no oven involved, they are also a smart choice for anyone who is short on time or baking in a warm kitchen.
KEY INGREDIENTS
Here is what you need for one batch of 14 truffles.
- 20 whole Golden Oreos, filling included
- 5 Golden Oreos, which is 10 halves total, without the filling
- 1 8 oz. package cream cheese, softened at room temperature
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups white chocolate or melting chocolate
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil
- Festive sprinkles for decorating
Golden Oreos. These are the heart of the recipe, and the frosting stays in. If you cannot find them, soft sugar cookies or vanilla wafer cookies work as substitutes.
Cream cheese. It has to be at room temperature. Softened cream cheese blends smoothly, binds the crumb mixture together, and gives the filling that rich, creamy texture. Cold cream cheese will leave you with lumps.
Vanilla extract. A small splash rounds out the flavor and makes the filling taste more like real cookie dough.

Coconut oil. One teaspoon goes into the white chocolate to help it melt into a smooth, glossy coating.
White chocolate. Two cups of white chocolate or melting chocolate. Milk chocolate, dark chocolate, candy melts, or vanilla candy coating (almond bark) all work too, and each one shifts the flavor a little.
Sprinkles. Red and green for Christmas, rainbow for birthdays, pink and blue for a baby shower, or none at all if you prefer a clean white finish.
HOW TO MAKE SUGAR COOKIE TRUFFLES
The whole process comes together in four steps, and the only thing you really need to plan for is chilling time.

- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Add the 20 whole Golden Oreos and the 5 Golden Oreos without filling to a large food processor, and process until the crumbs reach a sand like consistency. Add the softened cream cheese and the vanilla extract, then pulse until everything is combined.
- Once the mixture has formed into a cookie dough consistency, use a small cookie scoop to shape it into small balls, about one inch across. Place them on the lined baking sheet and freeze for 20 minutes, or until the balls are firm and chilled.
- When the truffles are chilled, mix the coconut oil with the white chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl. Heat in 30 second intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate is completely melted.
- Dip the truffles in the melted chocolate and place them back on the baking sheet. Decorate with sprinkles immediately, while the coating is still wet. Once all of the truffles are coated, place them back in the freezer to harden for 10 more minutes.
If you do not own a food processor, you are not stuck. Crush the cookies into fine crumbs and mix everything in a large bowl with a wooden spoon, or use an electric hand mixer instead. The texture will be a touch less uniform, but the truffles still taste wonderful.

| Stage | Time |
|---|---|
| Prep and mixing | 10 minutes |
| Freezing the truffle balls | 20 minutes |
| Hardening the chocolate coating | 10 minutes |
| Total | About 40 minutes |
Set a timer for the 20 minute freeze. Chilled, firm truffle balls dip cleanly, and the chocolate coating clings without sliding off.
RECIPE TIPS & VARIATIONS
A few small habits make a noticeable difference here.
Do not freeze the truffles completely solid. Fully frozen truffles can make the chocolate coating crack as it sets. They still taste perfectly fine, but the surface will not be as smooth. Firm and chilled is the goal, not rock hard.
Use a fork for dipping. Scoop the truffle with a fork, let the excess chocolate drip, then scrape the bottom of the fork against the side of the bowl. That little scrape keeps a thick puddle of chocolate from forming underneath each truffle.
Sprinkle right away. The coating sets fast, so add the sprinkles the moment the truffle comes out of the chocolate.

Try a variation. Swap the Golden Oreos for regular Oreos and you have Oreo Truffles instead. Same method, same creamy center, completely different flavor.
Match the holiday. Red and green sprinkles for Christmas, rainbow for a birthday, pink and blue for a baby shower. The truffles work all year long because the decoration does all the talking.
One last note: make them the day you plan to serve them if you can. Freshly coated truffles have the shiniest finish and the cleanest bite.
LEFTOVERS & STORAGE
Good news: these truffles store beautifully, so you can make them well before the party starts.

- Refrigerator: Keep them in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
- Make ahead: Prepare the batch a day in advance and leave it refrigerated until serving time.
- Freezer: Place the truffles in a large freezer bag or an airtight container, where they keep for up to 1 month.
- Thawing: Move frozen truffles to the refrigerator and let them defrost for 1 to 2 hours before serving.
I usually pull mine out about an hour before guests arrive so the centers soften just slightly. Cold from the refrigerator is fine too, and honestly, that is how most people seem to prefer them.
